Winding Wheel Damascening Patterns                                         Caveats

The damascening pattern on the winding wheels of the Model 92 is different for each grade.  Below you will find the various patterns and the grade associated with each one.

Appleton Tracy and Company

The Appleton Tracy & Company grade is the only grade in which there are variations in the patterns.

The first two runs of Model 92s containing Appleton Tracys (7005001-6000 and 7006001-7000) use the damascening pattern to the left on the winding wheels.  These runs are interesting in that they also contain Riversides and even some Vanguards in the 7005001 run.  This pattern is also found on Model 88 Royals and Model 92 Royals later in production.  This photo is actually from a Model 92 Royal as it is the best photo on hand of this particular pattern.

ATC Pattern One

The next 2 runs containing Appleton Tracys are7018001-600 and 7018601-973.  The Gray Book lists these runs as "Vanguard" and "Special" in the grade column but the Handwritten Records indicate that the runs are made up of ATCs, Riversides and No. 45s and some Vanguards.  There are no photos at present of any ATC movements from these runs so it is impossible to say what pattern is used on these particular watches.  The next run containing ATCs is 7026001-7000, which the Gray Book lists as Vanguards.  There have been ATCs and Riversides reported in this run and both grades use the pattern to the left.  The pattern used in run 744801-500 is unclear.

 ATC Pattern Two

At run 7450201-500 a brushed finish is applied to the wheels of the Appleton Tracy grade but the pattern is the same and remains the same with the brushed finish on ATCs throughout the rest of Model 92 production.
